23 Oct Freedom from Fear, Greed, and Addiction
If you ever find yourself thinking
“I can’t control my anger.”
“I’m trapped in addiction.”
“I feel jealous of others’ success.”
“I’ve lost direction.”
“Fear keeps holding me back.”
Or if you feel
“I have everything on the outside, yet I don’t feel peace inside.”
“People around me are good, but I still feel empty.”
Then this message — this journey — is for YOU and your LIFE.
Because you deserve more than survival, you deserve freedom, clarity, and inner peace.
Whether it’s fear, jealousy, or addiction — alcohol, drugs, pornography, or even overthinking — they all come from the same source: Maya — illusion.
You are not broken. You are simply lost in illusion.
What Is Maya?
The Bhagavad Gita and ancient wisdom describe Maya as the cosmic illusion — the veil that hides the truth of who we really are.
It makes us believe that temporary pleasures or external possessions will bring permanent happiness.
There’s a beautiful story from our scriptures:
When Narad Muni asked Lord Vishnu, “What is Maya?”, Vishnu asked him to fetch some water.
As Narad went, he saw a beautiful woman, fell in love, got married, had children — and one day a flood took everything away.
As he cried, Vishnu appeared and asked,
“Narad, where is my water?”
In that moment, Narad realized that everything he experienced — love, loss, life — was Maya, a dream created to show him how easily the mind gets trapped in illusion.
The Truth: Happiness, Peace, and Freedom Are Already Yours
Happiness is not something to be achieved — it is your birthright.
Peace and freedom are not outside you; they exist within you in infinite abundance.
Then why don’t we feel them?
Because Maya covers awareness.
Our desires, fears, comparisons, and attachments form a fog that blurs our inner vision.
You don’t have to “fight” Maya — you only have to increase awareness (જાગૃતિ), wisdom (વિવેક), and detachment (વૈરાગ્ય).
When awareness rises, illusion automatically fades.
How Addiction Destroys Purpose
Addiction is not just a habit — it’s an escape from awareness.
It gives momentary pleasure but steals long-term peace.
It:
-
Weakens willpower
-
Destroys focus and relationships
-
Creates guilt and self-hatred
-
Disconnects you from your true potential
Every addiction, whether physical or digital, disconnects you from your own divinity — your purpose, your values, your light.
The 5 Steps to Come Out of Any Addiction
-
Awareness (જાગૃતિ) — See the pattern. Acknowledge that this is illusion, not reality.
Awareness breaks denial — the first lock of Maya. -
Vivek (Discrimination) — Ask: Is this taking me closer to peace or pulling me away?
Every time you choose awareness over impulse, your strength multiplies. -
Vairagya (Detachment) — Don’t fight temptation; observe it.
The more you fight, the stronger it becomes. The more you watch, the weaker it gets. -
Purpose Alignment — Replace the addiction with a higher purpose.
Exercise, meditate, serve, learn — feed your mind with meaning, not distraction. -
Satsang & Support — Keep company of people who uplift you.
Isolation feeds illusion; community restores truth.
From Illusion to Integrity
You don’t overcome fear or addiction by willpower alone.
You overcome them by light — by seeing the illusion clearly.
Fear disappears when awareness rises.
Addiction fades when purpose grows.
Jealousy ends when gratitude awakens.
So the real question is not “How to break Maya?”
The real question is —
“How aware, wise, and detached am I in this moment?”
Because freedom is not outside you.
It is waiting within you — beyond the fog of illusion. 🌿
