This is from the book “Atomic habits” written by James clear. The book is about system and habit and it’s one of the best book by author on this topic.
British cycling team – Team sky, was having a really bad time and they have really bad performance from 1908 – 2003. They won only one gold medal during those years. The performance is such a bad that European cycle manufacturing company has stop providing them the cycle due to their bad reputation.
British cycling organisation decided to do something in this and the higher new coach Dave brailsford.
Dave brailsford was a very different from others because he was working on the strategy “The aggregation of marginal gains”. Just change 1% in every aspect of his team.
Like he made a soft seat so cyclist can sit comfortably, he purchase a comfortable and lightweight t-shirts, applying alcohol on wheels so it works smoothly just like this he has done small small improvement in all the aspect that become providing integrate result.
Due to this change his team won 60% of medals in 2008 Beijing Olympic.
Next London Olympic games their team has created 9 Olympic records and 7 World records.
His strategy of aggregation of marginal gain work really fine that his team won 178 World championship, 66 gold medals and six tour the France championship. The ordinary team become the champion in just 10 years.
So when you do a small marginal changes only one person improvement you can see a big difference eventually.
Author says we have to follow the system. Setting up a goal is good to achieve direction but following the system will give you result.
Stay healthy is your Goal but eating healthy food can be the system to achieve that goal. Acquiring 98% in exam is equal but reading daily and understanding topic is a system to achieve that goal.
So follow the system to achieve your desired goal.
Just like every fabric made of small atoms, remarkable result is build on atomic habits.
Following the system and building habit will help you to become the person you want.
Habit can be changed by two ways
1). Outcome Base change
2). Identity-based change.
You should become the identity base changes. Be the identity you want and reflect that in your behaviour everywhere you go then only you will have the successful habits.
